In my younger years I was very active in Tahunanui Presbyterian Church, being with our Children as they grew, Co-ordinating Sunday School activities and the weekly program and then later on when they reached Youth Group age; again organising , the weekly studies & activities, including the road trips to the Parachute Music Festival in Matamata and Hamilton.

As well as offering one-on-one spiritual direction, I have organised live-in and live-out retreats with other Spiritual Directors in the Nelson Region, with the latest being a part of the team to organise the 2026 Training Event, including offering two of the electives on Scripture, Presence & The Enneagram.

I have always wanted to help & support others, whether this was in administration, banking, co-ordinating Sunday school, as a Youth Leader or Elder in a Church. This desire leads me in many ways and probably what ended up leading me to Spiritual Direction. The accompanying of others in their life journeys also gives a good foundation to the supportive role I have with Rachels Vineyard Retreats.   Rachel’s Vineyard Retreats—healing the pain of abortion And also in co-ordinating the monthly support prayer for Crisis Pregnancy Home.

Prayer & scripture are vital to me and the yearlong Enneagram Certification Course lead by Russ Hudson & Jessica Dibb that I completed in mid-2025 has added new understandings to my contemplative life. I am a fellow traveller on the journey of life and believe that regardless of where we are on our journey there is always more. Sometimes that more is in abundance and sometimes it is in endurance.

My name is Sue Cunningham and I live in Nelson with my husband John. We have three children one of whom we lost in an accident when he was just 13 years old. Our two daughters and their families live locally and are our delight.
