The Executive at its Feb 19 meeting discussed the question of whether a Supervisor and Spiritual Director can be the same person. If so under what circumstances
Our secretary had noticed with the renewals, while this was not common, it was also not unique, and so this was brought to the Executive for discussion.
It was agreed:
That best practice was to have one person who is your Spiritual Director and another who is your supervisor. However there are some circumstances under which is this is not possible.
If someone was to have one person in both roles there are two key elements
- There needs to be some intentional justification of why this is the case
- There needs to an agreed and intentional focus for each role and each session – a session is either for Spiritual Direction or for Supervision.
