Te RangiMarie

The awesome response of Aotearoa New Zealand to the Christchurch Mosque shootings inspired me to write the Christmas Carol This is the Day – Te Rangimarie (Maori for peace).

Josh Jones

I feel that the people of this country rewrote the script of how we respond to the forces of hatred and division and I wanted to celebrate how all the wonderful and diverse communities of NZ came together in the bonds of love. Ultimately this is what the Spirit of Christmas is all about.

This is the day when hope came calling. A celebration of the light of unity and peace. It’s the spirit needed for our times.”

Aotearoa Christmas calling In the bonds of love,
we meet For the world a Christmas dawning And shines a light to greet CHORUS
We’re singing This is the day when the hope was calling.
This is the day when the light did shine.
This is the day when the world can sing.
Te rangimarie

Can you hear the cry for the wounds to be healed?
And can you hear the call for this light to reveal?
Oh a vision of hope, and peace for the tears in our hearts I’m saying.
This day’s the day for a brand-new start

CHORUS
We’re singing This is the day when the hope was calling.
This is the day when the light did shine.
This is the day when the world can sing.
Te Rangimarie

2. Can you hear the cry from the hearts to be free?
Yes and, can hear the call of the prophets who see?
Where justice and mercy and peace are the songs in our heart.
The joy that, this day’s the day for a brand-new start.

We’re singing
This is the day when the hope was calling.
This is the day when the light did shine.
This is the day when the world can sing.
Te Rangimarie Aotearoa Christ bring. Te Rangimarie

Aotearoa Christmas calling
In the bonds of love, we meet
For the world a Christmas dawning
And shines a light to greet
