Religious background
I am a member of Nga Whaea Atawhai o Aotearoa Sisters of Mercy New Zealand. My parents were first generation Irish. We loved nature – sea, bush, hills and rivers.
My background is in education – mainly primary in New Zealand and later moving into primary and secondary education and teacher development in Tonga and Samoa. These gifted experiences of living and working in different cultural contexts helped to shape who I am. I trained at Mercy Center, Burlingame, San Francisco and was involved in spiritual direction and leading retreats for a few years and then spent a few years working within the congregation in various roles.
More recently I took part in two further training programmes at Loyola House, Ignatian Jesuit Centre in Guelph, Canada, and I am delighted to be coming back into spiritual direction and leading retreats.
Approach to spiritual direction
My approach to spiritual direction is to provide a hospitable space of deep listening where you can explore the sacred ground of your life and your relationship with God, so that you may live the Gospel message more fully. I am constantly amazed at how God transforms lives.
