Religious background
I didn’t grow up in a Christian family, but I did grow up being heavily involved in the church singing in the choir. I was introduced to the Church Choir by a neighbour and very quickly it became a focus of my life and how I spent the majority of my free time. I made a commitment of confirmation when I was 14 years old.
When I left home at 18 I found life pretty hard but it was through one of these dark times when I was 21 that I encountered the Holy Spirit and asked the Holy Spirit to fill me. I see this as the moment when I fully committed my life to God. It was an experience like I’d never had before where I felt filled with a light and presence that I never wanted to leave. I was changed from the inside out and saw myself in a new way with eyes of love and kindness. Since that encounter I have drawn closer to Jesus in my life, he is the centre of my heart.
I have been previously involved in Vineyard church leadership in UK and NZ for 16 years. I now attend a Vineyard Church in North Auckland.
Approach to spiritual direction
I view Spiritual Direction as journeying alongside another through the vast terrains of life, with the Holy One as our guide.
I believe that our God cares deeply about every detail of our lives and wants us to encounter his love.
What spiritual direction might be like with me:
- I will welcome you into a non judgmental environment and listen to you as you are
- I will be listening to the Holy Spirit as our guide during our time together.
- I use symbols (objects, images, nature) to help guide in prayer.
- I use drawing, writing or mark making to help process.
- There may be times of silence, creativity and prayer.
