It is an absolute privilege being a Spiritual Director. I am an active listener and have a compassionate heart. Spiritual 'direction' is accompanying people on their life and faith journeys, helping them listen and watch for 'glimpses' of God's presence in their lives. Some people come to spiritual direction when they are in one of life's many transitions - growth, change, loss, questioning. I love it when people come with lots of questions!
My first role as a spiritual director/companion is to listen: to listen to each person, to hear their stories of joys and sorrows and longings, and to help them discern the sometimes quiet and hidden voice of God within. I encourage 'directees' in whatever ways of prayer best help them spend time in, become aware of, and open themselves to God's presence.
Each person brings unique and precious experience of life and God to spiritual direction sessions. Whether conversation is about relationships, family, study, career, change, church, ministry, health, loss, aging, prayer, or who or where or if God is - spiritual direction touches on the whole of life, including the unfathomable beauty, goodness and mystery we call God.
The people whom I accompany come from many backgrounds, ethnicities and denominations - Methodist, Anglican, Presbyterian, Evangelical, Baptist, and Catholic - all are most welcome.

I offer Spiritual Direction from my home, where I offer a place of welcome, warmth, safety, friendship and acceptance. It is a place where you can dare to share and express your thoughts, feelings, questions, desires, failures and successes, free of judgment. It is a time where tears and laughter are welcome. Nothing in your life is out of bounds, all is welcome, even what you might think is too ordinary or too glorious or be ashamed of. It is a time where the masks that we often wear can be set aside and what lies deep within can be slowly revealed. It’s a time where we go deeper, listening for what God might be saying and inviting you too and also a time where you can listen deeply to yourself.

I prefer to use the term Companion as I believe I am accompanying a person on their spiritual journey. I like to listen to the person - allow them to 'tell their story' and encouraging them to trust their own personal experiences - reflect upon their experiences and 'seeing' how God is present in the ordinary and sometimes extraordinary daily events of life.

This approach involves above all a spiritual companionship that is characterized by a deep reflective listening with an individual who wants to explore their relationship with God in a safe, secure and sacred environment. My task as spiritual director is to help a person hear their own unique spiritual story in a new light and offer ways of noticing and responding to the activity of God in their life. Through the spiritual process my deepest desire for individuals is that they will grow in their knowledge of God and themselves which will in turn help them fall more deeply in love with God. Life then, becomes all the more meaningful and richer in every way as a result.

My approach to spiritual direction stems from the Ignatian tradition. I am trained as a spiritual director and a 'giver of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.
Ignatian Spiritual Direction is based on Ignatian spirituality, developed by Saint Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556). The Ignatian Tradition leads the directee through a journey of uncovering their deepest desires and discovering who they truly are, that is, a person who is loved by God. The tradition also equips the directee with methods for identifying inner movements, and spiritual growth. These help the directee find the path of their own spiritual journey.

I am a Catholic woman, married with children and grandchildren. I belief in the extravagant, tender and mysterious love of the Trinity. It is important to me that the directee is leading the way in what she/he wants to talk about and that they feel comfortable.
Together we are looking for God/the Holy Spirit/Jesus in the directees day to day life - in the good places and in the bad ones, in the happy ones and in the sad ones. The aim is to grow closer to the One they believe in, and to find comfort and strength to face life’s challenges. I believe that in learning how deeply they are loved they will also come closer to finding their True Self.
Sometimes images, art, stories, and the interpretation of dreams, etc. are effective tools I use in guiding my directees to find their own truth. If it feels appropriate, I draw on the wisdom of the Enneagram to help them understand themselves better.
