Spiritual direction for me is a conversation about "God in the midst". That might be about what is or isn't happening in your prayer. It might be about what is happening around you, in family, with friends, the world and discerning God's invitation to you within that. It might be about your own hopes, desires, disappointments, struggles and where God is for you within those. I seek to provide a relaxed, gentle listening space for you to explore what is going on for you and to see where God is for you within that.

I am professionally trained as a midwife, which I consider informs my whole perspective in offering Spiritual Direction, as God is all ways desiring to gestate in us through waiting seasons and even loss, to bring the mystery of unexpected surprises to birth in our lives. Margaret Guenther opines a midwife is a 'with woman' who offers her 'with-ness' in keeping another company along the journey, one who provides empathic support; a 'listening into clarity'; and the freedom to explore the 'terra incognita' of the soul's desires. I consider the matrix for this is elicited through the reciprocal gift/trust of soul friendship, that I endeavour to proffer over a wide ranging denominational melange.

Kiaora koutou... In 4 words, my approach is: "Live in the present!" I am shaped by the Ignatian Exercises and the desire to balance contemplation and action as I follow Jesus - but as your spiritual companion, my role is to help you reflect on how your life is being shaped, and to engage with God in that process.

Karen McKie Spiritual Director
Spiritual Direction is a space for you to listen to your authentic self. To be seen and heard. To notice the movement of God within your daily life, the highs and lows and the spaces in-between. I love the imagery of the nest. Where the three of us gather, you and me and the Spirit of God. Here we take pause from the busyness of life, we breathe and rest and listen together. It is a safe space where all are welcome, there is no judgment here. It is a privilege to be with you on this pilgrimage of discovery and grace, with God as our guide.

he hope I hold out for those I companion spiritually is that a spacious enough place will be created that the presence of God is sensed. I also hold a particular desire to walk alongside ( virtually) people who are working in an overseas context, so they are supported to maintain their spiritual vitality in that setting. Much of what I experienced overseas through mission life has led me to want to have a specialised knowledge of trauma, and I am still exploring the ways our spirituality helps in recovery from trauma.

I’m passionate about joining others on their journey towards personal wholeness and a deeper intimacy with the Divine. I have a particular interest in spiritual companionship with leaders, staff and students in ministry, mission, training organisations, and those at life’s transitions

I am a fairly new spiritual director in the contemplative tradition. My approach is to sit with you and walk with you on your spiritual journey, asking questions to help you clarify things, deepen experiences and see where God is at work in your own life. I love the metaphor of a midwife – being the one who helps bring birth to something new. I like to connect with God through nature myself and this is something I foster. We have a large garden which is in the process of being developed as a Quiet Garden – a place where people can spend time being still, connecting with God, letting go of stress and listening. In the future it will be open for structured quiet days as well as for personal retreat times. I am happy to work with directees over Zoom (though face to face is my preference!) especially with those in the mission space.

When you come to spiritual direction, you are opening yourself to hear God’s invitation to grow in the ‘unforced rhythms of grace’. As I walk alongside you on your faith journey, my role is to offer you the gift of safe space and deep listening. You bring your experiences, and together, we discern and celebrate the Sacred in the everydayness of your life. My prayer is that you grow in self-awareness and developing intimacy with God.

Margaret Shearing Spiritual Director
I like the description Midwife to the Soul. Accompanying another on their spiritual journey is a very old tradition and have found it very vital in my own journey.

Joy Campbell spiritual director
Spiritual Direction is a regular conversation in which you are supported to notice and attune to Divine presence active in your life. It is a place to explore the happenings of daily life through the lens of spiritual communion. God is always speaking. It is for us to learn how to tune into this communication.

Paul Reet Spiritual Director
I see myself as an accompanying person alongside another discovering the presence, voice and discernment of God; what God may be saying through circumstances, personal history, relationships. We are holistic people, physical, emotional and spiritual and I work with all these aspects of a person's life to increase awareness and a sense of God's presence and working. Metaphorically I am companion gardener, with you and the Greatest Gardener, uncovering clearing sowing and reaping, pondering and wondering, waiting and being.

Spiritual direction is a sacred space. It is a chance for a person to share of themselves in a caring safe environment, a place where God is the unseen presence in all our discussions. I was trained by Spiritual Growth Ministries and am an ordained Anglican priest and am currently the vicar of a small Christchurch parish. I love the privelege of sharing with others as they journey with God along the path of life.

As your spiritual director I'd be listening with you to all aspects of your life - decisions, work, relationships, dreams, disappointments, joys...the whole shebang, and together we'd be looking for "the holy in the ordinary". I'm trained in a Contemplative/Incarnational model of spiritual direction which is unstructured and lively. Central to the session is you and God. I see myself as an extra pairs of eyes and ears with you; present in the highs, lows and plateaus of ordinary life, looking and listening with you for the invitations of God to you. Not a guru but a sounding board. Not a judge but friend to your soul. Not a teacher but a resource. Not an advisor but a skilled listener. I enjoy kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) spiritual direction but also love offering retreats and spiritual practice workshops. I'm Pākeha, Cis, She/her, and doing my best to learn how to be a good ally.

I encourage the stillness that’s needed for presence and encounter with the Holy Spirit. My desire is that spiritual direction would also result in the living out of a deepening relationship with Jesus, ultimately bringing blessing to others. Conversations are confidential, offering grace not judgement. I welcome an initial informal chat before engaging in regular meetings.

I love Eugene Peterson's description of a spiritual director as 'someone who will show up, and shut up - just to be there, an honest, prayerful presence with no responsibility to be anything other than what you have become in your obedient lifetime'. I am probably better at showing up, than in shutting up, but I do seek to be the prayerful presence that listens with attention and intention to God, and the other, and find - in our conversation - that God is indeed at work.

Spiritual direction will provide you with dedicated time and a confidential space where you can plumb the depths of your personal/spiritual life at a pace that is suitable to you. As spiritual director i consider my role as partnering with you as you traverse and travail the heights and depths of your personal/spiritual journey, encouraging you to notice and attend to the invitations and movements of the Holy amidst your life experiences and current journey. Spiritual Direction provides a wonderful opportunity to accompany people on their journey with Our God. I aim to listen, to draw out and ask questions that help another pay attention to God's activity and presence in their lives. I am trained in the Ignatian Tradition and draw on this in my ministry.

Having been involved in pastoral leadership for over 30 years, recently transitioning into prioritising spiritual direction and wider involvement across the Body of Christ. I have a passion to help people grow in awareness and response to God’s Presence within them, around them, in Creation, in all contexts of life. Learning to live from an inner posture of rest and peace has been a life long journey and eager to walk alongside others to grow in the wonder of who we are as Gods image bearers.

We explore together where God sits with you today by offering a space to reflect and examine God's activity and your response. There may be the use of quietness, the psalms and art as entry points into your inner life - seeing how they mirror your experience.

I believe spiritual direction is primarily about helping the directee listen to God, speak to God, and respond to God's invitations. I work with people to help remove any barriers to this communication with God, and we do that through a variety of ways- through art, the imagination, movement, scripture, silence, and stillness. My deep joy is watching people explore prayer, contemplation, and the whispers of God for themselves through the work of the Father, enacted by Jesus, and breathed on by the Holy Spirit.

It’s my great pleasure to share in people’s journey with God. I assume that God is already at work in your everyday life and my role is to listen, notice and wonder with you. I am endlessly amazed at how close God wishes to come. I also hope to provide a safe place to say what “shouldn’t be said”. It is important for people to have a place to question everything,

I came to spiritual direction in my later years after working as a psychologist for 30 years and after some difficulties in defining the boundaries between the two disciplines I have come to a place where they inform each other and blend well. The role of companioning someone on their journey into the Loving Mystery of God is a privilege. My intention is to listen deeply without judgement, open to all aspects of being because every part of a person; mental, emotional, relational and spiritual is grist to the mill of life and is an invitation drawing us closer to the realisation of Emmanual (God with us).

Rainer Maria Rilke famously wrote, “Be patient to all that is unsolved in your heart … live the questions now”. In Spiritual Direction I find myself forever moved by the humility and beauty of others’ questions, wonderings and celebrations about the holy in everyday life. Spiritual direction is a warm and curious companioning to help you trace your desire for the sacred, voice the questions, notice the invitations, the absences, and allow that which is painful to be held before God. I believe we are met by the grace and kindness of God in every circumstance of life and time with a spiritual director helps us to welcome this more deeply.

When I consider spiritual direction, I find myself drawn to the Celtic understanding of spiritual companionship. As an 'Anam Cara' or 'Soul Friend', I have the privilege of walking alongside people as they explore the terrain of their ordinary lives with our hearts attuned for the movement of a loving God there. Together we look for the 'beckoning green finger of God' within the ordinary and everyday.

For me the space when I’m together with another is a place of warmth and hospitality. A place where everything on life’s journey can be brought into the light and love of the Trinity. A place where a person can speak and be heard and respect is given to the sacredness within us. To refrain from offering interpretations and to remain curious and adopt a not-knowing position is important for me. To trust that there is something to be learned from each and every experience shared. As your companion, to offer what was noticed, appreciated and wondered about as I listened, in an effort to help you increase awareness of your soul’s expressions and the sacredness of your story; a place for both laughter and tears

I love having the privilege of accompanying others on their spiritual journeys, helping them to notice the God moments/grace moments and become more attuned to God's movement within their everyday lives. It is my desire to create a safe space where we acknowledge God's presence and directees can feel listened to and feel free to raise whatever they need to grapple with, explore, celebrate or wonder without judgement. To listen to another in such away, that I can assist them to hear what God might be saying, his invitations to them and their response. When someone approaches me seeking spiritual direction, I like to invite them to come and meet with me first, either face-to-face or online, so that we can get to know a little of each other before deciding if I am the most suitable person for them at this time.

I am a spiritual director trained in a contemplative/incarnational model of spiritual direction drawn from the Catholic tradition and the world of psycho-therapy. I have worked as a spiritual director for more 20 years. I work to help those who come for spiritual direction - directees - to find where God is active in their everyday lives and to discern what God is communicating. My role is primarily listening to what my directees bring and then helping them tease out the emerging God activity. Directees then decide how to respond.
